As a Fiber Optics Field Technician II , you’ll play a crucial role in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber optic networks that power homes, businesses, and industries. This dynamic role keeps you out in the field, working with cutting-edge technology to ensure seamless communication networks. Each day brings variety and challenge, whether you're installing fiber lines, troubleshooting network issues, or working at heights and in confined spaces—all while fostering your valuable technical expertise. Responsibilities Safely perform work in communications spaces. Qualify to work safely in energized spaces. Participate in work requiring pole climbing when necessary. Operate basic hand tools (Cordless Drill, Hammer, Wrench, Socket Set). Recognize general safety hazards and electrical-specific hazards. Perform work from an elevated position in the bucket truck. Manage worksite housekeeping duties and equipment inspections. Perform minor field repairs on equipment. Perform cable stripping, cleaving, terminating, and testing. Stay up to date with Industry Standard coding for fiber optics. Troubleshoot and repair common fiber optic equipment issues. Install demarcation enclosures, switches, and other telecom equipment. Assist with training and mentorship of lesser experienced technicians. Complete documentation to include record-keeping, billing, inventory, etc. Working Conditions Walk/use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. Climb poles; carry, set-up and extend ladders weighing up to 65 pounds. Work indoors, outdoors, and underground in various weather conditions. Able to lift up to 65 pounds without assistance. Minimum Requirements 2-4 years of relevant Fiber Optics experience preferred. Valid Driver’s License is required. Possess Underground Miner Card. Must be comfortable working at elevated heights and in confined spaces. Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision. Ability to apply technical expertise, evaluate problems and implement best practices.
